Beadlescomb, Muex and two relay teams join Paris with first-place finishes
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It was another record-breaking day for the Michigan State track and field program at the Indiana Invitational, as Jaiden Paris set the Spartan record for the women's 100m hurdles on Saturday at the Hoosiers' Robert C. Haugh Complex.
Â
Paris was one of three individual MSU winners on the second day of the meet in Bloomington, as Morgan Beadlescomb took home his second of two first-place finishes this weekend with a personal-record time in the men's 800m and Terrence Muex had the top overall time in the men's 400m dash. The Spartans also had the women's 4x100m and men's 4x400m relay teams finish first in their races, while Trevor Stephenson and Sophia Franklin placed second in the men's and women's pole vault.
Â
MSU started the day with Quiara Wheeler in the women's hammer throw, who landed in third place with a 58.67m throw on her fifth attempt. On the men's side, Joshua DeVries used a 58.41m toss on his second attempt to earn himself ninth place.
Â
In the high jump, Avery Budz and Elizabeth Knoll finished 10th and 11th, respectively, on the women's side at 1.64m for both, while Tylor Leedom took 10th in the men's competition with a 1.98m result.
Â
The women's pole vault saw Franklin place second with a top vault of 4.27m, getting the height on her first attempt, and Calli Ostapowicz earned 10th place at 3.87m. Later, Stephenson needed all three attempts at 5.37m to vault his way to second place in the men's pole vault.
The field events wrapped up with the women's discus throw, as Wheeler had a 51.34m personal-record toss on her first of six attempts to take fifth place.
Â
Action of the track started with the men's 4x100m relay race, where the Spartan relay of Logan Allen, Muex, Zachary DiStefano and Antonio Postell IIÂ placed second with a 40.920 time. The women's 4x100m followed, as Paris, Amani Nuels, Brooke Bogan and Shakira Dancy combined to post a relay time of 45.726 that was good for first place.
Â
Paris then put her name in the MSU record books with a 13.35 time to win the women's 100m hurdle finals after a 13.67 preliminary time, breaking the previous MSU record of 13.37 set by Leslie Aririguzo in 2012. The Spartan was not alone, as Kaia Scheffler took fourth in the finals with a 13.80 PR following a 14.02 posting in the prelims. Heath Baldwin competed in the men's 110m hurdles, running a 14.43 preliminary time that was second-fastest in the qualifying heats before being a scratch in the final heat.
Â
The men's 100m dash had Postell run the fifth-best preliminary time at 10.59, but he finished sixth in the finals with a 10.74.
