Michigan State was hit by a bout of bad luck on Sunday afternoon as the Spartans out-hit Purdue, 11-4, despite the run deficit. Seven Spartan batters collected base hits and four recorded two-hit days at the plate. Junior Camryn Wincher, fifth year Caitie Ladd, senior Mackenzie Meech and senior Abby Joseph all had multi-hit games. Wincher was the lone MSU player to reach three teams, drawing a walk in the first inning.
Two players, Rachel Becker and Olivia McFadden, accounted for all four of Purdue's hits.
Sophomore Ashley Miller threw a complete game in the circle, surrendering just one earned run on four hits over six innings of work. The Leo, Indiana native struck out four batters to inch closer to the Michigan State single-season strikeout record, now sitting at 232 strikeouts this season.
A two-out triple from Joseph in the second inning opened the scoring for the Spartans as the Purdue outfield was unable to make a diving play on a ball flaired to left center.

Purdue took a 2-1 lead over the Spartans in the bottom of the third after a two-out error extended the inning. A bases loaded single from Olivia McFadden plated two Boilermaker baserunners to give them and early lead.
Michigan State tied things up in the top of the fifth when a trio of singles from Callahan, Wincher and Ladd brought a run around. Ladd's single up the middle with two outs scored Callahan to even things up. Senior Kendall Kates singled to extend the inning, but a play at the plate resulted in the final out.
