Barroso’s Blast Not Enough on Friday

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Sophomore Alexis Barroso hit a towering home run to left field on Friday night, but it wasn't enough as the Michigan State softball team fell to Maryland by a score of 7-2 at Secchia Stadium.
Barroso had a multi-hit day for the Spartans going 2-for-3 at the dish, including the two-run home run. Fifth year Caitie Ladd, senior Jessica Mabrey and junior Camryn Wincher also recorded base knocks for MSU. Michigan State made plenty of contact throughout the game, but the speedy Maryland outfield turned multiple potential base hits into outs.
Freshman Faith Guidry was Michigan State's best pitcher, tossing 4.1 shutout innings of relief and striking out seven Terrapin batters. Seven strikeouts are the most in a game for Guidry during her young career. It's Guidry's sixth scoreless relief appearance of the season.
All of Maryland's scoring came in the third inning as the Terrapins recorded seven runs on six hits and two errors.
A Wincher single in the bottom of the seventh set up the Barroso blast to get the Spartans on the scoreboard late.
UP NEXT: Michigan State will continue its series against Maryland on Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m.

You could tell that one was gone off the sound of the bat. Alexis Barroso sends one out of the park to left to keep the Spartans alive in the seventh!#GoGreen | #B1GSoftball pic.twitter.com/eodi57KoGZ
