
Softball Welcomes Maryland for Final Homestand of Regular Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. --Â Michigan State is set to play its final home series of the season this weekend against Maryland. Game one of the series will have a 6:00 p.m. first pitch on Friday, April 29 at Secchia Stadium, followed by a 2:00 p.m. start on Saturday, April 30 and a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday, May 1. All games throughout the weekend will be streamed live on BTN+.

ABOUT MARYLAND
Maryland is wrapping up a break-out season, entering the weekend with a 26-19 overall record and a 12-5 mark in the B1G. The Terrapins are coming off of a 19-25 season a year ago under third year head coach Mark Montgomery. Maryland baserunners like to run, topping the nation in stolen bases per game at 2.71. The Terrapins have stolen 120 bases so far this season. Megan Mikami leads the team with 27 swiped bags on 27 attempts. Jaeda McFarland, Kiley Goff and Ruby Butler have also been successful with double-digit steals.
As a team Maryland ranks 10th in the Big Ten in fielding percentage at .965, committing a total of 47 errors. The Terps force other teams to make mistakes however as Maryland opponents have made 66 errors this season.
Six Maryland batters are hitting over .300 this season, led by Taylor Okada hitting .343. Mackense Greico leads the team with a 1.011 OPS thanks to her .483 on-base percentage and a .528 slugging percentage. Grieco leads the team in RBIs with 26. Michaela Jones is the clubhouse leader in home runs with five. Maryland regularly has six left-handed batters in its lineup, which would be the most Michigan State has seen this season.
Courtney Wyche is the ace of staff among Maryland's pitchers with a 2.19 ERA over 108.2 innings pitched. Wyche has gotten better in Big Ten play with a 1.79 ERA in 47 innings. Wyche leads the Terrapin pitching staff with 123 strikeouts. Maryland relies on Trinity Schlotterbeck for innings as she leads the team with 131 on the season, often times pitching twice per conference series. Schlotterbeck has a 3.53 ERA this season as opponents have hit .268 against her.
SPARTAN NOTES TO KNOW
With 232 strikeouts this season, sophomore Ashley Miller ranks third in program history for single season strikeouts. Miller needs just four strikeouts to move into second place and is 33 away from breaking the all-time record.

Camryn Wincher has turned in a strong junior campaign with a team-high .338 batting average and 48 hits. Wincher is second on the team with 20 RBI. Sophomore Alexis Barroso leads the team in RBI with 23 while ranking second in batting average (.318) and hits (42).
Jessica Mabrey has been a staple in the lead-off spot for the Spartans, hitting .293 with a team-high .429 on-base percentage. Mabrey is second on the team with five home runs. Mabrey's 28 walks would have led the team during the 2021 season. Mabrey also leads the team in runs with 27. Courtney Callahan has been a consistent presence in the MSU lineup this season playing each of the outfield corners depending on who is pitching. Callahan is hitting .298 with nine doubles, a triple and two home runs. Her 11 stolen bases leads the team. Callahan is hitting .355 over her last 10 games going 11-for-31 with five extra-base hits.
Caitie Ladd is second on the team lead in stolen bases with 10. Over the last 10 games Ladd has been one of MSU's best hitters, posting a .364 average on 12-of-33 hitting. Ladd has been Michigan State's most consistant bat in Big Ten play with a .296 average.
