MSU announces Wright as assistant coach
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State gymnastics added Devin Wright to the Spartans' coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Mike Rowe announced Wednesday.
Wright arrives in East Lansing after spending the past five years as a club coach at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy. While at CGA, Wright served as an assistant head coach for level 8, 9, and 10 gymnasts, and worked as the club's head beam coach. She also served as lead beam coach for USA Gymnastics' Region 5.
"We wanted to be diligent in our efforts to find just the right fit, and we are extremely thrilled to welcome Devin from the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy, as she is that fit," Rowe said. "She exemplifies technical knowledge and experience, enthusiasm, maturity, and competitiveness. She has a ton of ambition and commitment to being a sponge, while soaking up all of the intricacies of compliant recruiting, NCAA, Big Ten and Michigan State policies and procedures, along with the flexibility of mentoring consistency with our process and culture. With an outstanding, upper-tier gymnastics tradition of producing top-notch athletes in all respects, Devin is definitely a Spartan gain!"
Under Wright's tenure, CGA produced 20 USA Gymnastics Development Program national qualifiers and 15 Eastern National qualifiers. Her athletes combined for over 50 Region 5, Eastern Nationals, and Development Program Nationals all-around and event titles and top-10 finishes. Wright also coached four Development Program National Team Camp members and four Region 5 All-Star team members in addition to five TOPS National Team members. In 2022, Wright's level 8, 9, and 10 teams all captured first-place team finishes at the Ohio state meet.
Wright also assisted in the college recruiting process for CGA's student-athletes. While at CGA, 20 of Wright's gymnasts signed national letters of intent to Division I schools in the Southeastern, Big Ten and Mid-American conferences.
"It's been a dream of mine to coach collegiate gymnastics for years," Wright said. "The moment I stepped on the MSU campus, I knew this is where I wanted to be. I am inspired by the positive culture, energy and desire for excellence from the team. I'm excited to bring my own enthusiasm and passion to this growing program. The overwhelming support from Mike, (associate head coach) Nicole and the girls has been amazing. I can't wait to see what we all accomplish together as a team! Go Green!"
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Wright graduated from Beavercreek High School and was a competitive gymnast for nine years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the Chamberlain College of Nursing in 2017.
