Spartans Finish Second Round Two Shots Off Pact at The Landfall Tradition

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot a 3-over par 291 in the second round and is tied for third place entering the final round of play at The Landfall Tradition, being played at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
The Spartans fired a tournament-best 9-under par 279 in Friday's opening round and have a two-round total of 6-under par 570 (279-291) to tie for third.
Arizona moved into first place at 8-under par 568 (288-280), one shot ahead of second place Tennessee (7-under par 569) and two shots ahead of Michigan State and UCF, who share third place. Clemson rounds out the top-five teams at 5-under par 571.
Second Round Results
Sophomore Paula Balanzategui, who tied her career-best on Friday with a 4-under par 68, posted a 1-under par 71 on Saturday and leads the team, standing in third place in the field of 96 golfers at 5-under par 139 (68-71).
Junior Katie Lu was tied for the best team round of the day with Balanzategui, posting a 1-under par 71. Lu is tied for 13th place at 2-under par 142 (71-71).
Junior Brooke Biermann is tied for 18th place at 1-under par 143 (68-75), finishing her second round with a 3-over par 75.
Senior Leila Raines is tied for 37th place at 2-over par 146 (72-74). She carded a 2-over par 74 in Saturday's round.
Junior Shannon Kennedy is tied for 88th place at 14-over par 158 (77-81).
Michigan State will tee off at 9 a.m. in Sunday's final round, playing alongside Clemson and Duke.
