Junior guard DeeDee Hagemann scores a career-high 24 in the win.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - A record setting night from the field helped the Michigan State women's basketball team dominate Detroit Mercy 105-44 Thursday night at the Breslin Center.
Shooting 70.9 percent from the field (39-for-55), the Spartans broke the school record for field goal percentage in a game set in 1986 against Bowling Green. In that game MSU shot 67.2 percent (45-for-67) against Bowling Green on Dec. 23, 1986. The Spartans also tied school record for assists with 34.
With the win, the Spartans improve 3-0 this season, while Detroit Mercy falls to 2-2. This is the eighth-straight year that Michigan State has started the season 3-0.
For the third-straight game junior guard DeeDee Hagemann led MSU in scoring with 24 points, passing her previous career high of 23 against Oakland on Nov. 8. She also added a season-high seven helpers. Graduate guard Moira Joiner added a season-high 17 points and four assists. Graduate guard/forward Tory Ozment was stellar in the second half scoring 10 points, including going 2-for-2 from long range. She also had a game-high eight rebounds.
Detroit Mercy was led by nine points from both Myonna Hooper and Jada Moorehead.
The Spartans used an early 6-0 run to take a 10-5 lead midway through the first quarter. A fast-break layup from Julia Ayrault gave the Spartans the 17-11 advantage at the 2:29 mark, but could not shake the Titans. An Abbey Kimball trey put MSU on top 20-17 to end the period. The 17 first quarter points matched the Titans scoring for the next two period combined.
In the second quarter, MSU used an 8-0 run to open up its first double digit lead 32-21 with under seven minutes left in the half. With the help of junior guard Jocelyn Tate and senior guard Gabby Elliott the Spartan run increased to 12-2 and made the MSU lead 36-23. Michigan State was able to keep Detroit Mercy off the scoreboard for over four minutes to end the half on a 17-2 run. Joiner drained a long-range three with one second remaining to send the Spartans into the locker room with a resounding 53-27 lead.
The offensive onslaught continued for Michigan State in the third quarter. MSU used a 19-2 run over 5:16 to stretch its lead to 77-33 with 1:30 left in the period. The Spartans out-scored the Titans in the third quarter 26-7. Seven different Spartans scored in the third stanza led by 11 from Hagemann. Michigan State was 10-for-12, including going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc in the period.
Freshman center Mary Meng was a big contributor for MSU in the fourth quarter with six points. She was 2-for-2 from the field and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. Meng's jumper with 31 seconds remaining gave the Spartans' their biggest lead of the game, 105-44.
The Spartans conclude their four-game homestand against Evansville on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Breslin Center. It is the first half of a doubleheader with the Michigan State men's team.
Michigan State Women's Basketball Post-Game Notes
• Shooting 70.9 percent from the field (39-for-55), the Spartans broke the school record for field goal percentage in a game set in 1986 against Bowling Green. In that game MSU shot 67.2 percent(45-67) against Bowling Green on Dec. 23, 1986.The last time they achieved that feat was an epic 114-106 game against Minnesota on Feb. 21, 2016 at the Breslin Center.

Overall, she has 25 double-figure scoring games for her career. The guard was 8-for-10 from the field and 5-for -6 from beyond the arc, both tying career highs. She also added seven assists.
• Michigan State's 61-point margin of victory was the most since a 65-point win against Florida A&M on Nov. 17, 2022. The school record for margin of victory is 66 against Niagara in a 116-50 win on Nov. 14, 2008.
• Michigan State leads the overall series with Detroit Mercy, 25-7. The Spartans have won the last 20 games in the series, leading 19-1 in East Lansing. MSU holds a 6-5 record in Detroit, while Detroit Mercy has won the only meeting in neutral territory.
• For the second-straight game, all 12 Spartans that played scored at least one point. Freshman center Mary Meng scored a season-high nine points, while junior guard Lauren Ross added seven. Graduate guard Moira Joiner (17) and graduate guard/forward Tory Ozment (11) both reached double figures.
• This was the Spartans' first 100-point performance since the 109-44 win over Florida A&M last season on Nov. 17, 2022.
