Wrestling Opens the Season at Clarion Open

EAST LANSING, Mich.—The Michigan State wrestling team travels to Clarion, Pa. where they'll be one of the 11 programs partaking in the Clarion Open to kick off the 2023-24 season. First whistle is scheduled for 9 a.m. from Tippin Gymnasium.

"This weekend will be a great opportunity for our team to compete. I have no doubt there will be very high-level competition that is ready to go on the opening weekend. I am looking forward to our guys competing at a high level to start the season."
VETERAN LEADERSHIP
The Spartans finished the 2022-23 season 10-6 with a 2-6 B1G record. The Green and White are returning three of their NCAA National qualifiers (Chase Saldate, Caleb Fish, and Layne Malczewski). Along with the veteran seniors is Jordan Hamdan who finished with a 21-13 record last season. Head coach Roger Chandler enters his 27th season with Michigan State and eighth as the head coach.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
MSU will have an opportunity to get a sneak peek at future dual opponents. Three of the 11 teams slated to compete at Clarion on Sunday are on Michigan State's dual schedule later in the season (Buffalo, Clarion, and Ohio State).
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
The Green and White will be taking 26 wrestlers to Clarion and among them are eight freshmen who will be making their collegiate debuts.
