
Michigan State Gymnastics Qualifies for Second-Straight NCAA Regionals

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Michigan State gymnastics heads to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania next week to compete in the NCAA Pittsburgh Regional beginning on Friday, March 31. With Monday's selection, the Spartans have qualified for the NCAA gymnastics postseason in consecutive years for the first time since 2015-2016.Â
The meet will take place at the University of Pittsburgh's Petersen Events Center.Â
MSU will be the No. 3 seed in the Pittsburgh Regional and No. 10 seed overall. The 2023 NCAA Regionals occur over four regional sites, with four sessions of competition taking place over three days. The first round in Pittsburgh on Thursday, March 30 will be a 'play-in' dual meet between Towson and Penn State. The Spartans will begin competition in the second round on Friday, March 31 at 2 p.m., competing in the first of two sessions alongside No. 2 seed Cal, West Virginia and Western Michigan. The second session at 7 p.m. will feature No. 1 seed Florida, No. 4 seed Arizona State, Maryland and the winner of Thursday's play-in meet. The top two teams from Session I and Session II will advance to the regional finals on Sunday, April 2 at 5 p.m. The top two teams from Sunday's regional finals will advance to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, on April 13 and 15, joined by the top two teams from the remaining three regions for an eight-team national championship field.Â
At last year's NCAA Regionals, Michigan State finished third in the Seattle Regional Final with a then-program record of 197.650. MSU's third-place finish was its best finish since 1998.Â
Michigan State finished second at the 2023 Big Ten Championships on March 18 with a score of 197.550. Freshman Sage Kellerman (vault) and junior Delanie Harkness (bars) collected the first individual event titles for MSU since 2017, while head coach Mike Rowe was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second-straight season and Nikki Smith was named Freshman of the Year.Â
