
Spartan Throwers Wrap Up First Day of Action in California

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Michigan State track & field's throws contingent wrapped up its first day of action in California at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State's Jack Rose Track Thursday.
MSU's first day in the Golden State was highlighted by Joshua DeVries in the men's hammer throw. DeVries set a personal best for the fourth-straight meet, recording a mark of 65.39m in the sixth and final round to finish fifth. The junior inched closer to MSU's school record of 66.29m, set by Vinny Gjokaj in 2015.
Freshman Colby Morlock was the second Spartan to earn a top-10 finish on the men's side, using a 17.55m throw in the shot put to place eighth.
In the women's throws, sophomore duo Valadian Pallett and Opal Jackson competed in both the shot put and discus throws. Jackson placed 23rd in the discus with a personal-best throw of 49.11m and 18th in the shot put with a mark of 14.55m. Pallett placed 30th in the discus with a personal-best throw of 47.75m.
The Spartans continue action at Long Beach State with the Beach Invitational from Friday, April 14 to Saturday, April 15.
