Spartans Stopped Twice by Iowa on Sunday

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State softball dropped a pair of games to Iowa to conclude its three-game series on Sunday, losing by 4-2 and 3-1 tallies from Secchia Stadium at Old College Field.
Michigan State's overall record falls to 11-20, with a 1-8 mark in Big Ten action.
Game One – Iowa 4, Michigan State 2
Spartan Stats
Junior Ashley Miller (6-8) made the start for the Spartans in game one, making her first start in the circle since March 5 against Boise State. Miller pitched her sixth complete game of the season, striking out eight Hawkeye batters. Iowa scored four runs on nine hits.
Seniors Kendall Kates, Kennedy Wyllie and Jessica Mabrey provided the offense in game one. Kates and Wyllie had one hit apiece, while Mabrey had two including a home run. Mabrey and Wyllie each drove in runs for the Spartans. Junior Alexis Barroso drew a walk, while four Spartan batters were hit by pitch.
Scoring Summary
Wyllie opened the scoring for the Spartans in the bottom of the third when her two-out bloop to left plated Kates from second.
Iowa tied the game up with a two-out rally of their own in the fifth inning. Brylee Klosterman's double to center set up Anna Streff for an RBI situation and she delivered with a single to left.
Mabrey gave MSU back a lead in the bottom of the fifth, slugging her team-best fifth home run of the season down the left field line.
Iowa took a 4-2 lead over the Spartans with a three-run sixth that saw the Hawkeyes collect five hits.
Game Two – Iowa 3, Michigan State 1

Sophomore Madison Taylor (3-6) started in the circle for the Spartans in game two, pitching her third complete game of the year. Taylor allowed three earned runs on nine hits and three walks, striking out three.
Michigan State's offense had eight hits in game two with none bigger than freshman Britain Beshears' first career hit and home run in the bottom of the sixth. Seniors Jessica Mabrey and Brooke Snyder each had two-hit performances, and freshman Mandy Esman doubled.

Iowa scored a single run in each of the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead over Michigan State in game two. The Hawkeyes used a two-out single to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Beshears put the Spartans on the board in the home half of the sixth with her first career hit and home run to deep left-center.

Michigan State will remain at home throughout next week for five home contests. The Spartans start the week off with mid-week games against Notre Dame and Michigan before welcoming Minnesota to Secchia Stadium for a weekend series.
