Three Spartan Gymnasts Named CSC Academic All-District

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State gymnastics' Baleigh Garcia, Jori Jackard and Gabrielle Stephen have earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartan trio, who also served as tri-captains during the 2023 season, each earn their first CSC Academic All-District nod. Former Spartan Lea Mitchell was the last MSU gymnast named to the CSC Academic All-District At-Large team, earning All-District and Third-Team All-America honors in 2022.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve sporting at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 GPA scale. No student-athlete is eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and are at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Garcia, a kinesiology major hailing from Boyton Beach, Florida, was a Second-Team All-Big Ten selection in 2023. The junior competed in the Spartans' balance beam lineup in every meet during the season, earning runner-up honors on the event at the Big Ten Championships en route to being named to the Big Ten All-Championship Team. She is a two-time Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Academic All-Ameircan and Big Ten All-Academic honoree. She was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2022.
Jackard, a senior from Haslett, Michigan, made history in 2023 when she scored the first 10.000 in Spartan history on uneven bars on March 5. Jackard is a three-time WCGA Academic All-American and Big Ten All-Academic honoree as well as two-time Big Ten Distinugished Scholar. She graduated with a degree in psychology in May and will return to MSU for her fifth season in 2024 to begin a master's degree in clinical social work.
Stephen, a sophomore criminal justice major and native of Elgin, Illinois, had a spectacular 2023 in the Green & White, highlighted by qualifying for the NCAA Championships as an individual on balance beam in April. Stephen earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors for the second-straight season in 2023 and won the NCAA Pittsburgh Regional title on beam. She earned Big Ten All-Academic honors this season and was the recipient of the Harold & Raynor Shnider Office of the Provost Award at MSU's Annual Academic Excellence Gala.Â
All three Spartans are now eligible for Academic All-America status, with those selections announced on Wednesday, June 21.
