Spartan Men Open Exhibition Play at Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday

East Lansing, Mich. - Â Michigan State men's soccer will open the 2023 campaign with the first of two exhibitions, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, Â Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. at Hefner Soccer Complex.
The last time the teams met was in an exhibition game in 2021 in East Lansing.
The Spartans were 6-9-2 overall last season and 3-4-1 in Big Ten play. Michigan State brings back its top-two scorers in sophomore forward Jonathan Stout and senior forward Greyson Mercer. Last season, Stout was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year for his standout rookie campaign. He was the first Spartan to garner Freshman of the Year honors since All-American Giuseppe Barone in 2016. Sophomore forward Jake Spadafora also joined Stout on the Big Ten All-Freshman team last season.
Before opening the regular-season, the Spartans will play at Pittsburgh on Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m.
The Michigan State men will play nine regular-season contests this season, beginning with home games against Loyola-Chicago (Aug. 24) and Bowling Green (Aug. 28).Â
