Holloman Scores Career-High 19 Points as Michigan State Outlasts No. 12 North Carolina in Overtime, 94-91

LAHAINA, Hawaii – Junior guard Tre Holloman scored a career-high 19 points and six players scored in double figures as Michigan State's men's basketball team beat No. 12 North Carolina, 94-91, in the third place game of the Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center Wednesday night.
Hollman scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half, handed out a team-high seven assists and hit four big free throws in the overtime period.
Senior guard Jaden Akins scored 14 points and grabbed three rebounds, sophomore forward Coen Carr had 14 points and seven rebounds, redshirt freshman guard Jeremy Fears Jr. added 13 points, six assists and four rebounds, senior forward Frankie Fidler had 13 points and three rebounds and sophomore forward Xavier Booker finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

- Michigan State led by 14 points in the first half, by nine at halftime, fell behind by one point in the second half and took an eight-point lead, 79-71, on a driving layup from Fears with 4:30 to play in the game.
- The Tar Heels used an 8-1 run to pull within 80-79 on a 3-pointer from Elliot Cadeau with 1:03 to play before free throws from Holloman gave MSU an 82-79 edge with 13 seconds left.
- After a timeout, Seth Trimble hit a 3-pointer, tying the game and sending it to overtime.
- In the 5-minute overtime, free throws from Holloman and a dunk from Carr gave MSU an 86-82 lead but a 3-pointer from Drake Powell and free throws from Cadeau gave the lead back to the Tar Heels, 87-86, with 2:44 left.
- Booker responded with a pair of baskets to give the Spartans the lead for good, first a thunderous dunk (2:20) followed by a layup (1:35) to give MSU a 90-87 advantage.
- Free throws from Holloman capped a 6-0 burst as the Spartan lead grew to 92-87 and free throws from Fears with eight seconds remaining pushed the lead to 94-88.
- The Spartans had opened the second half with a 43-34 lead and extended it to 49-39 on a layup from junior center Carson Cooper at the 17:27 mark.
