
Michigan State Closes Regular Season with 65-64 Loss at Indiana

Bloomington, Ind. – Michigan State came back from a 17-point first half deficit to take a second half lead, but Indiana's Kel'el Ware hit a free throw with 17 seconds left and a last-second shot was off the mark for the Spartans as the Hoosiers posted a 65-64 win at Assembly Hall Sunday afternoon.
Graduate guard Tyson Walker scored a game-high 30 points, while adding three assists and three steals to lead three players in double figures for MSU as senior guard A.J. Hoggard added 10 points and six assists and junior guard Jaden Akins finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Michigan State earned the No. 8 seed in the Big Ten Tournament next week at Target Center in Minneapolis and will play No. 9 seed Minnesota on Thursday, March 14.

- After trailing by as many as 17 points in the first half, the Spartans took the lead early in the second half and had a seven-point lead, 55-48, midway through before Indiana made a run to take the lead back at 56-55.
- A dunk from sophomore center Carson Cooper gave MSU a 57-56 lead but baskets from Kel'el Ware and Malik Reneau handed the lead back to Indiana, 60-57 lead.
- The Spartans tied the game three more times, first on a free throw from Cooper (2:56), then on Walker free throws (2:10) and then on a driving layup from Walker with 1:28 to play.
- The Hoosiers missed a shot and MSU had two chances with 47 seconds left but could not connect.
- Ware was fouled with 17 seconds left, hit the second of two attempts and after a timeout, Walker's jumper was off the mark and Indiana held on for the win.
- Michigan State had trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half (24-7) and were down five points, 34-29, at the break, but used a 12-2 run over the opening 4:02 of the second half and took a 41-36 lead on a 3-pointer from Walker.

- The Spartans struggled coming out of the locker room to open the game, hitting just one of its first seven shots and a turnover leading to a fast break layup for Indiana's Trey Galloway, giving the Hoosiers a 12-3 lead and forcing MSU to call a timeout just over four minutes in.
