ROSEMONT, Ill. - Following a record-breaking performance against Central Michigan, Fisk and Greenville last weekend, three Michigan State gymnasts earned weekly honors from the Big Ten, as announced by the conference Tuesday. Junior Skyla Schulte collected her third Gymnast of the Week award, while freshman MaKayla Tucker won her second Freshman of the Week honor and senior Delanie Harkness was named Event Specialist of the Week.Â
MSU has earned 13 weekly awards from the conference this season, the most by any team in 2024. Schulte's trio of Gymnast of the Week honors is the second-most by a gymnast in the B1G this season, while Tucker's pair of Freshman of the Week nods ties for the most in 2024. The Spartans are also the only team to have three different gymnasts earn the Specialist of the Week award, with Harkness' selection following three awards each for sophomores Sage Kellerman and Nikki Smith.Â
Schulte posted the best all-around score in the B1G last week, earning a 39.575 to capture her sixth all-around title of the season. She also scored a 9.950 on beam, her fourth 9.950 on the event this season, to earn her fifth beam title of 2024, and tied a career-high 9.975 on floor to win the floor title. MSU matched its beam record for the second time this season with a 39.600 on the event.Â
Harkness collects her second overall B1G weekly award and first since earning the Specialist of the Week honor as a sophomore on Feb. 15, 2022. She competed on bars, beam and floor in MSU's quad meet win, winning the bars title with a 9.950 to tie her career high, while finishing fourth on beam (9.900) and third on floor (9.925).Â
Tucker, who ranks first among freshmen in the conference on vault and floor, won the first vault title of her career in MSU's quad meet victory with a 9.925. She tied a career-high 9.900 on beam to finish fourth and placed fourth on floor with a 9.900. Tucker was named Freshman of the Week earlier this season on Feb. 6.Â
The Spartans scored a 198.150 in their win over Central Michigan, Fisk and Greenville, their highest team score of the season and second-best score of all-time. MSU has now eclipsed the 198.000 team score mark twice in a season for the first time in program history and is only one of seven teams to do so during the 2024 season.Â
MSU travels to Texas Woman's University for a quad meet with TWU, Centenary and Rutgers for its regular-season finale on Sunday, March 17 at 3 p.m. ET.Â
