Spartans Host 2024 Big Ten Championships Saturday at Jenison Field House

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â Ninth-ranked and top-seeded Michigan State gymnastics (18-3, 9-0 B1G) hosts the 2024 Big Ten Women's Gymnastics Championships for the first time since 2013 on Saturday, March 23 in Jenison Field House. MSU will compete against No. 2-seed Michigan, No. 3 Ohio State and No. 4 Minnesota in the evening session at 5:30 p.m. on Big Network.
PARKING INFORMATION: Parking for fans is available for $5 in lots 62 and 24 and ramps 7 and 4. There are multiple events on MSU campus weekend, so please plan accordingly to arrive on time. Construction on the US-127 Corridor Improvement Project has begun, and will impact those traveling to campus from US-127, I-96, and I-496. Exits to Trowbridge Road and Kalamazoo Street will also be impacted. MSU enters Saturday's meet at a national qualifying score of 197.615, good for ninth in the NCAA. MSU closed the regular season on March 16 with a tri-meet at Illinois State, scoring a 197.050 to defeat ISU and Lindenwood. The Spartans swept the event titles, led by wins in the all-around and on bars from junior Gabrielle Stephen, and tied the program vault record for the second time this season with a 49.575. Sophomore Olivia Zsarmani earned Big Ten Specialist of the Week honors this week after securing the vault title at ISU with a career-high 9.975.
The Spartans' 197.615 is their highest NQS in program history.
In the team event rankings, MSU sits in the top 10 on vault (No. 4, 49.465 NQS) and bars (No. 10, 49.415) while sitting at 11th on beam (49.385) and 13th on floor (49.515).
SPARTANS AT THE B1G CHAMPIONSHIPS
MSU has finished second to Michigan at the last two editions of the Big Ten Championships. The Spartans' second-place finish in 2022 was its best finish since 2006, where MSU finished second while hosting at Jenison Field House. MSU has never won the Big Ten Championships, its best finish (second) coming 10 times since the conference began the championships in 1982.
Last season, the Spartans earned their first conference individual titles since 2017 with titles from current sophomore Sage Kellerman on vault and current senior Delanie Harkness on bars. Kellerman, Harkness, Baleigh Garcia and Skyla Schulte were named to the All-Championships team. Kellerman was the first freshman to win a Big Ten title for the Spartans since 1996. MSU has never won a Big Ten individual all-around title.
THE MATCHUPÂ
MSU defeated Michigan during the regular season at the Crisler Center for the first time since 1990 on Feb. 4 this season with its highest road score in program history and second-best score of 2024 (198.050). The Spartans met Minnesota and Ohio State at the Big Five Meet on February 23, where MSU scored a 197.275 Â to finish first and clinch the Big Ten regular season title outright. Ohio State finished second (197.000) and Minnesota finished third (196.900) in that meet.
