
Smith Named Big Ten Specialist of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. - For the third time this season, Michigan State sophomore gymnast Nikki Smith was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week, as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
Smith earns her third career and season Specialist of the Week award and sixth overall for the Spartans in 2024, following sophomore Sage Kellerman's three selections earlier this season. MSU has earned 10 Big Ten weekly awards this season and won at least one award in all but two weeks in 2024.
The West Bloomfield, Michigan, native competed on vault and bars in MSU's 197.725-195.725 victory over New Hampshire on March 1, helping the Spartans to their best home score and second-highest score of the season. Smith earned a 10.000 on vault to win the event title, the third perfect score of her career and second this season, to become the only gymnast in MSU history earn three or more 10.000s in their career. She also scored a 9.800 on bars to finish eighth overall.
Smith ranks third in the Big Ten and 15th in the NCAA on vault this season.
MSU returns to action on Saturday, March 9 for a quad meet with Central Michigan, Fisk and Greenville at 2 p.m. in Jenison Field House.
