First Period: The Spartans were on the board just over two minutes into the game. Gavin O'Connell and Karsen Dorwart were in the left corner of the offensive zone, battling a pair of Wolverines for the puck. Dorwart got it free and skated out between the goal line and the bottom of the left circle, and wristed a puck on the net, which bounced off Logan Stein's pads and into the back of the net. That was the only goal of the period – MSU outshot their hosts 15-7 and the Wolverine defense added seven blocked shots in the frame.
Second Period: The Michigan power play – operating at 27.4% entering the game (fifth nationally) tied the game midway through the second period. Will Horcoff was to Augustine's left, and tipped an Evan Werner shot from the left point for his second goal of the season. Under the five minute mark, the Spartans began to buzz in the offensive zone – but Stein kept things at bay to send the squads deadlocked into the final 20 minutes.
Third Period: Joey Larson broke the stalemate at 8:35 to give the Spartans back the lead. David Gucciardi sent a stretch pass out of the defensive zone and found Dorwart, who carried it into the offensive zone.
