THE ORIGINAL SIX
The top notes you need to know about Spartan hockey
•  No. 1/1 Michigan State wraps up a lengthy stretch of road contests on Friday before returning home on Saturday as the Spartans engage with No. 10/10 Michigan for a home-and-home series.  The games this weekend will be the 349th and 350th meetings all-time between the archrivals, and the Wolverines own a 181-143-24 record in the series.  Michigan is 85-49-5 in games played in Ann Arbor, while the Spartans are 71-56-12 in games played in East Lansing.  MSU took four of six meetings between the teams a year ago.Â
•  At 18-2-2, MSU is off to its best start since 2000-01.  With a 9-1-2 record in Big Ten play, MSU is currently one point ahead of  Minnesota atop the Big Ten standings.  Nine of MSU's last 10 games dating back to Dec. 6 have been away from Munn Ice Arena, and the Spartans are 7-1-2 in those 10 games.  MSU's nine-game unbeaten streak (7-0-2) is the longest active streak in the country.  Â
• The line of Charlie Stramel centering Isaac Howard and Daniel Russell have skated together in the last nine games and in 11 overall.  That trio has a combined 44 points in their games together, including 11 last weekend at Penn State.  Howard (with five goals and an assist at PSU) has goals in each of MSU's last seven games and has scored in 13 of MSU's 22 contests (and has points in 18).  Stramel owns a 6-12-18 scoring line, and is tied for second on the team in points with Russell (10-8-18).
• The line of Karsen Dorwart with Joey Larson and Red Savage were together the seven games prior to the Penn State series, and had 16 points (6-10-16) in that stretch.  Dorwart and Larson each had goals at PSU, with Dorwart having a three-point effort with two assists. Dorwart has a 6-10-16 scoring line, while Larson is third on the team in goals (7-5-12)  Â
•  MSU is getting consistent offense from his back end - among the most consistent D pairs, the Buffalo pair (Patrick Geary and Maxim Štrbák) have 1-14-15, the David Gucciardi- Nicklas Andrews duo 4-15-19, and Owen West- Matt Basgall 3-13-16. Â
Â
 •  The duo of Trey Augustine and Luca Di Pasquo split the games at Penn State last weekend. Di Pasquo played in his fifth consecutive game on Friday and made 29 saves.  In seven starts/complete games this season, Di Pasquo has a 1.70 GAA and a .933 save percentage.  Augustine allowed two goals and made 32 saves on Saturday, which included 13 in the third period, three more in overtime, and three shootout attempts before the Nittany Lions finally snuck one past him to secure the shutout point.  Despite missing games with World Juniors, he remains the Big Ten leader and ranks sixth nationally in wins (11), is second in save percentage (.931, T-11th NCAA) and shutouts (2, T-8th NCAA), and is third in GAA (1.97, 14th NCAA).  Â
