Opening Statement...
Proud of our team's win tonight. I thought overall we were playing good basketball on both ends of the court. We knew coming in Penn State, just came off a really big win, has been playing really good basketball. I thought about our preparation and some of the details for tonight. Our kids did a good job with executing some of the things we've been talking about and knowing we have to get better, and we saw the girls do that. From rebounding, passing the ball and ball movement, I thought those things were really good tonight.Â
Â
On forcing Penn State turnovers early...
That's important for us in the way we play. Every team's a little bit different with how you pressure and what's important and how you pressure. We knew against Penn State, they're a little bit different than other teams we've played. I thought our kids did a good job of pressuring them in a way that could help us. It takes five to do that, and even if they broke it, we did a good job of getting matched up and guarding the half court.Â
Â
On Theryn Hallock's development as a player and the role she stepped into this season…
I thought she took great shots, she got some in transition, she shot well. More recently we have moved her off the ball and I do think that's helped, I think we're doing a good job of moving it and she's doing a good job of finishing.Â
Â
On Jocelyn setting the tone today...
As you know, Jocelyn is such a unique player in that you really have to watch to understand the impact, you have to watch to understand how the motor, energy, the deflections, her ability to guard so many different players and so many spaces. Open court, in the paint, she did a great job. She had a nose for the ball, she did a good job getting deflections, finished well, so really overall complete offensive and defensive game from her.
Â
On preparing for Michigan...
It has all the elements, that's what makes college sports so fun. I think two top 25 teams, rivalry game, it'll also be a new match-up, very different from who we played tonight. We'll have two days to prepare, we'll have to be sharp, they have some real challenges with guarding them and making sure we're all on the same page with that.Â
Â
What can you accomplish on a night like tonight when what you really want to accomplish is on another night...
All we wanted to accomplish was being good tonight. That's what it takes for the things you really want. We talk a lot with our team to be an every possession player, be an every possession team, and when you can stay in that space that leads to really good things. I can't think more than that, Penn State took up all my brain space for tonight and now Michigan's going to take up all my brain space for the next few days.
Â
On lineup changes...
It could be both. I think we're trying to find the right rhythm, the right rotations, especially because we play pretty deep, so I think it was more about getting the right people playing together. Game-to-game as the season goes on, that's our job, to constantly evaluate that and make sure that we're not just doing something because we've always done it, but we're doing what's best for our team.
