Opening Statement...
It's a disappointing one for us tonight at home. A lot of credit to Oregon, I think they played a good game. They did some things that bothered us, frustrating, but I think the game was obviously lost in the first quarter without start and readiness to execute and details with that. Some good lessons were learned. I thought our fight back was good, but even when we fought back, we get on the free throw line and left those points in thin air. Especially when we were clawing back into the game. It was a tough one, we can definitely learn from this, and we have another coming soon.
On difficulty scoring early...
Who knows. They have been very good defensively. That is definitely an element. They are very big. A lot of size, especially in the paint. We knew that, we knew moving the ball was going to be really important. I thought part of our struggle defensively was bad shots, then all of a sudden, the court was unbalanced and they're scoring. Just a combination of things. I think we gave ourselves a chance at the end. I thought we did some things a little different that I thought helped. But that first quarter was just hard to claw out of.
If you're not making shots, is it difficult to pivot and play the style you want to play?Â
I mean if you're not making shots it puts a ton of pressure on your defense all the time. Then you can't get into your press, or you're consistently in transition defense. Very connected game. I think the better offense you play the better defense you play. That first quarter we weren't playing very well on either side.
Have you played anyone yet with that size? Â
I don't think we've played anyone with that sort of size at the rim, that guards it. I think this is the most rim protection we've seen.
It looked like you guys were doubling on Kyei, was that an emphasis on the game plan?Â
We knew she's a tough match-up, she's a pretty unique match-up. Early we were trying to get some help from her, but it was late. Then your help is late and now everybody's open. If our helps early, we can look a little different in that.
