Spartan Men’s Tennis Set for ITA Regionals in Chicago

Four Michigan State players to compete at Midwest championship event.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – This week, four Michigan State men's tennis players will head to Chicago, Illinois, for the ITA Midwest Regional Championship, Thursday-Monday, Oct. 16-20.
The tournament is hosted by DePaul, and action will be played at XS Tennis Village. Fans can follow the Spartans throughout the tournament via "Tournament Central," "Live Stats" and "Watch Live" links available at MSUSpartans.com.
The ITA Regionals serve as a qualifier to the NCAA Individual Championships. The two singles finalists and the doubles champions from each of the 13 regions will earn NCAA bids. The NCAA Individual Championships will be held Nov. 18-23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Sophomores Vuk Radjenovic and Danial Rakhmatullayev, junior Taym Alazmeh and senior David Saye will be representing Michigan State in both singles and doubles play.
Three of these Spartans, Radjenovic, Rakhmatullayev, and Alazmeh, are returning to play after competing at the Lexington M15 in Lexington, Kentucky. Saye will be taking the court after his appearance at the ITA All-American tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In doubles play, Alazmeh will team up with Rakhmatullayev, while Radjenovic will partner with Saye. Both doubles duos earned byes in the round of 64 and will open play in the round of 32.
A pair of Spartans, senior Ozan Baris and sophomore Matthew Forbes, will not be in action this weekend as they've already qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships after advancing to the quarterfinals of the ITA Men's All-American Championships in September.
