EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's cross country teams will travel to Evansville, Indiana for the 2025 Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 14, hosted by the Evansville Regional Sports Commission.
The women's 6k race will begin at 11 a.m. ET, while the men's 10k race will start at 12 p.m. ET. The race will take place at Angel Mounds State Historic Site. There is a $10 entry fee.
The No. 13 Spartan men are the top ranked team in the Great Lakes Regional, along with No. 14 Butler, No.15 Wisconsin, No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 26 Michigan. On the women's side, there are three ranked teams in the field with No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 23 Michigan State and No. 25 Wisconsin.
In the Big Ten Championships on Oct. 31, Michigan State finished second at its home course in East Lansing. All five of the Michigan State scorers recorded new personal-best times. The Spartans' Riley Hough was the runner-up with a time of 23:18.5, which was just shy of his career best at the Gans Creek Classic earlier this season (22:50.8). Hough's second-place finish was the highest since Clark Ruiz was second in 2017. Thomas Westphal finished third with a personal-best time of 23:25.8. Hough and Westphal both earned first-team honors, while Westphal also was named to the All-Freshman team.
The Spartan women finished fifth in the Big Ten Championships. For the second-straight season Rachel Forsyth earned first-team All-Big Ten honors, crossing the line in 19:57.6, which was good for sixth place. Paige Marchant was 31st with a season-best time of 20:48.8. Olivia Millen was the third MSU in 20:51.6, which was good for 33rd, while Kate Stewart-Barnett was 37th (20:53.2). The final Spartan in the top five was Taylor Pangburn, finishing 40th with a time of 20:55.1.
Last season, the women took fourth place in the Great Lake Regionals, while the men were also fourth in the 10k race. Last year was the third time in the last four years that at least six Spartans between both teams claimed the All-Region honors and the 14th time in the last 16 seasons with six plus runners earned the accolade.
The top two teams in each regional secure automatic bids to the championship. The first four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team also secure an auto-bid to the championships. If a team doesn't secure an automatic bid, it will have to rely on the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee to select it as one of the 13 at-large teams. Only two individual at-larges are selected, making a strong regional performance pivotal to advancing toward a national title. The NCAA Selection Show is Saturday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.
