Baris and Forbes Power Through To Sweet Sixteen To Secure All-American Honors

Spartans deliver dominant performances to extend NCAA tournament run and earning All-American recognition.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis continued the second day of competition on Wednesday at the NCAA Individual Championships with both Ozan Baris and Matthew Forbes advancing through to the Round of 16.
For the first time in the modern era of Michigan State men's tennis, a pair of Spartan student-athletes have secured All-American honors in the same year.
Senior Ozan Baris took on Roan Jones from North Carolina to open competition for day two on Wednesday. After a hard fight, Baris pulled off a 6-2, 7-5 straight-set win to advance in the bracket. Baris will battle Ilia Snitari from UNLV on Thursday, Nov. 20 at approximately 12 p.m.
Sophomore Matthew Forbes took the court against TCU's Cosme Rolland De Ravel. Forbes managed to secure a quick straight-set 6-1, 6-4 win. Forbes will face Max Dahlin of Michigan on Thursday at approximately 10 a.m.
For Baris, he continues to rewrite the Spartan men's tennis record book, now becoming the program's first four-time All-American. Forbes earns the first All-American accolade of his MSU career, becoming the sixth different Spartan player to earn All-American recognition. MSU now has nine total All-American awards in program history.
