Four in Double Figures as No. 9 Michigan State Uses Big First Half to Beat Toledo, 92-69

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Senior forward Jaxon Kohler had a double-double, four players scored in double figures and 12 different players scored as No. 9 Michigan State opened up a 30-point lead at halftime en route to a 92-69 win over Toledo on Tuesday night at the Breslin Center.

Kohler, who had 14 and 10 rebounds in the first half, registered his sixth double-double of the year with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Redshirt sophomore guard Jeremy Fears Jr. scored 15 points and handed out a game-high eight assists, sophomore guard Kur Teng added 14 points and junior forward Coen Carr chipped in 14 points and four rebounds.

Michigan State led from start to finish, opening a 30-point lead at the break (58-28) and maintaining at least a 25-point lead through most of the second half.
Leading 6-4 in the first half after Toledo's Sonny Wilson hit a jumper, the Spartans used a 14-2 run to take a 20-6 lead on a 3-pointer from Fears at 14:37.
The Rockets knocked the lead down to 10 points, 22-12, on a 3-pointer from Wilson at 13:24 before MSU out-scored Toledo 17-9, with Kohler scoring seven-straight points, and took a 39-21 lead after three free throws from Fears with 6:58 left.
The Spartans out-scored Toledo, 12-2, over the final 2:34 of the first half and took a 30-point lead, 58-28 into the break on a Fears jumper as time expired.
MSU took its biggest lead of the game, 77-744, on a layup from Teng with 9:44 left in the game.
Toledo used a 17-7 run over 6:03 and pulled to within 80-61 on a 3-pointer from Wilson (game-high 29 points) with 3:29.
The lead never got below 19 points and the Spartans closed the scoring out in the final minute with back-to-back 3-pointers from redshirt freshmen twins Brennan and Colin Walton.
