EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State gymnastics senior Gabrielle Stephen was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.Â
The award is the first for Stephen this season and third of her career after collecting the honor twice during the 2023 season. She is the second MSU gymnast this season to win the award, following three selections for junior Nikki Smith, and the third Spartan to collect a weekly award from the conference overall in 2025 (Sage Kellerman, Specialist of the Week).Â
MSU joins UCLA as one of two schools in the conference to have two different Gymnast of the Week award winners this season.Â
Stephen won her second all-around title of the season in MSU's 197.475-196.275 home win over Rutgers on Feb. 22 with a season-high 39.500. She also scored a season-high 9.925 on bars, helping the Spartans to a season-high 49.575 on the event which was also the second-best team score on the event in program history. Stephen matched a season-high 9.900 on floor and scored a 9.875 on vault and 9.800 on beam. Her 39.500 was the highest all-around score in the conference last week.Â
This season, Stephen ranks second in the conference in the all-around behind Smith with a national qualifying score (NQS) of 39.410. In the national rankings, she stands at No. 14.Â
Michigan's Carly Baumann won the conference's Specialist of the Week award and teammate Jahzara Ranger was named Freshman of the Week.Â
Up next, MSU travels to Coralville, Iowa, for the Big Four Meet on Sunday, March 2 at 7 p.m. ET. The Spartans will face host Iowa, No. 25 Penn State and Washington on Big Ten Network.Â
