Spartan Women’s DMR Finishes Second in Day One Action at the B1G Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In the first day of the Big Ten Indoor Championships, Michigan State track & field saw four podium finishes Friday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
The defending champion Michigan State women's distance medley relay team ran an excellent race to finish second behind Oregon. Despite topping last year's time, the squad of Kate Stewart-Barnett, Alexys Wilson, Shae Harbaugh and Rachel Forsyth crossed the line in 11:00.04. Oregon took first in 10:56.97.
In the first day of action, the Spartans sent a pair of runners to the mile final. Stewart-Barnett was the second overall finish to reach the final with a time of 4:40.30. Olivia Millen qualified on time, finishing fifth in 4:41.70.
Logan Allen also reached the final in the 60m hurdles, finishing fifth with the time of 7.85.
Riley Hough finished just off the podium in the men's 5000m. With a new personal best, Hough finished ninth with a time of 13:52.55, while Andrew Lane was 13th in 14:05.25. In the women's 5000m, Kaitlyn Hynes finished 14th with a time of 16:35.05.
The Spartan women had a strong showing in the field events as well. In the women's weight throw, the pair of Elle Adrian and Valadian Pallett both reached the podium. On her first throw of the night, Adrian was just shy of her personal best with a throw of 22.32m. Pallett's throw of 20.77m helped her advance to the final. She threw 21.01m to take seventh.
In the women's long jump, Leila Barmore finished in eighth place. With a huge personal best, she jumped 6.12m.
MSU will start day two with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles, followed by the men's long jump. Rachel Forsyth, the MSU school record holder, will also compete in the 3000m on Saturday.
