Michigan State moves to 0-4 to start the 2025 season and looks to get into the win column on Saturday when it meets Western Michigan for a rematch at 2:00 p.m. ET in its final game of the Candrea Classic.
Game One - #11 Alabama 6, Michigan State 2
Michigan State matched the No. 11-ranked Crimson Tide hit for hit in game one with six different Spartans recording base knocks. Both teams finished the game with seven hits on the day. Sophomore Hannah Greer had her best performance in the Green & White to date going 2-for-3 at the plate with her first career home run.
Freshman Jacey Schuler (0-1) made her second start of the season pitching 4.0 innings against Alabama allowing three earned runs on just three hits. Schuler was relieved by senior Faith Guidry who tossed the final 2.0 innings of action allowing two earned runs.
Alabama took an early 1-0 lead following a solo home run in the first inning, but the top of Michigan State's batting order tied things up in the third. Junior Sydney Doloszycki's single to left scored the pinching running freshman Ava Coffinger, who tallied the first run scored of her collegiate career.
