PERIOD RECAPS
First Period: An early Spartan power play led to an early MSU lead on the scoreboard. After the Spartans kept the puck in the zone Nicklas Andrews zipped it over to Isaac Howard in the right circle. Howard let a shot rip, and Shane Vansaghi was in front to tip home the rebound for his fourth goal of the season. MSU outshot the Wolverines 12-6, and Michigan also blocked eight MSU attempts. Isaac Howard had five of MSU's 12 shots on net.
Second Period: The shots on goal were nearly even at the midpoint of the second period – seven for the Spartans, one less for Michigan as the teams took a media time out. The Wolverines tied it up at 11:26, when Tyler Duke ripped a shot from the high slot above the hash marks, beating a screened Augustine for his fourth goal of the season. MSU countered less than two minutes later on a Gavin O'Connell strike. Larson fed his opposite winger to send him into the offensive zone, and Karsen Dorwart put up a perfect screen to give room for O'Connell's offering to find its mark in the upper right corner. Two minutes after the O'Connell score, freshman Mikey DeAngelo, camped in front, had a Vansaghi shot bounce off of him and past Korpi to make it a 3-1 game. That's how the teams headed to the locker room for the second intermission, with Augustine turning away all nine shots he faced and MSU pumping its shot total to 24.
Third Period: MSU tacked on three goals in the final period, outshooting the Wolverines 16-3. It started just 1:15 into the frame on another rebound goal - Karsen Dorwart didn't get all of the puck on his shot attempt, but enough on the puck to carom off Larson and past Korpi. At 7:49, Augustine started the play by feeding it to defenseman Owen West. He found Tiernan Shoudy over the blue line, who skated it to the faceoff dot in the left circle and ripped home his fifth of the season, with Augustine and West each earning their third assist of the year. Isaac Howard closed out the scoring on the power play at 14:48, getting the puck from Larson on the right side with a yawning opening to deposit his 22nd goal of the season. The teams combined for 51 combined penalty minutes, with Michael Hage getting a major and a game misconduct and Kienan Draper a pair of minors and a 10-minute misconduct penalty.
