Women’s Golf in Third Place at Augusta Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State's women's golf team shot an 11-over par 587 over two rounds and is in third place among 13 teams after the first day of play at the Valspar Augusta Invitational, being played at on the par-72, 6,201-yard course at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
The 13-team field played 36 holes over two rounds on Saturday and will conclude the tournament on Sunday.
Michigan State posted rounds of 8-over par 296 and 3-over par 291 to finish the day 11-over par 587.
Georgia Southern leads the field at 6-over par 582, three shots ahead of UCF (9-over par 585) and five shots ahead of third-place Michigan State. Furman is in fourth place (25-over par 601) and Texas Tech rounds out the top-five teams (27-over par 603).
Senior Katie Lu leads the Spartans through two rounds, tied for fifth place at 1-over par 145 (74-71), with junior Paula Balanzategui tied for ninth place at 2-over par 146 (77-69).
Senior Brooke Biermann and sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia are tied for 18th place with scores of 6-over par 150. Biermann posted consecutive rounds of 3-over par 75, while Murcia shot a 2-under par 70 and closed with an 8-over par 80.
Freshman Catalina Monroy is tied for 31st place at 10-over par 154 (78-76), while senior Shannon Kennedy, playing as an individual, is also tied for 31st place at 10-over par 154 (76-78).
The Spartans tee off on Sunday, starting at the first hole, at 9:30 a.m., playing alongside Georgia Southern and UCF.
