
Spartan Field Athletes Lead MSU at the USF Alumni Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In the first week of the outdoor track & field season, the Michigan State track & field team was led by an outstanding showing by the Spartan field athletes.
Friday Action
Friday was highlighted by the Spartan throwers. In the men's shot put, Dillon Morlock, who was just named a Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Athlete to Watch, finished second with a throw of 18.73m in his first outdoor collegiate meet. Colby Morlock also had a strong start to the outdoor season finishing sixth in the shot put (17.40m).
In the men's hammer, Joshua DeVries finished seventh with a throw of 61.46m. Colby Morlock was solid, finishing 11th (56.27m).
The women also had a strong day in the field events. Jessica Stieb finished first in the women's shot put with a throw of 16.48m, which was a new personal best. In her first outdoor meet, Rylan Finstrom finished sixth (14.82m). Indoor All-American Elle Adrian finished ninth in the hammer throw with a PR throw of 56.07m.
Sophia Mettes finished seventh in the women's pole vault with a vault of 3.90m. Leila Barmore took fifth place in the long jump with a jump of 5.85m, just shy of her personal best of 5.88m.
On the track, Cameron Cheetam finished sixth with a time of 21.02 in his first outdoor collegiate meet, while Tee Muex ran a 21.59.
Saturday Action
On Saturday, Barmore got the Spartans going with another strong outing. Barmore finished fourth in the triple jump (12.40m).
In the men's discus, Dalton DeBeau also took fourth to lead the way for the MSU men with a throw of 53.40m, which was a new personal best. Dillon Morlock finished fourth in this outdoor discus debut with a throw of 47.92m.
In the women's discus, Val Pallett took eighth place (47.89m), while Finstrom was 10th (44.86m).
On the track, Cheetam finished 22nd in the highly-competitive 400m, finishing in 48.11, while Muex was 26th with a time of 48.25.
