No. 32 Michigan State Men’s Tennis Secures Another Big Ten Victory With 4-3 Win Over Penn State Saturday

Spartans Edge Nittany Lions in Thrilling 4-3 Match to Continue Conference Success.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis secured a 4-3 victory over Penn State on Saturday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center to kick off their Big Ten weekend.
Saturday's win came in the first of two home matches on the weekend, as MSU is set to face No. 3 Ohio State on Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m., in the second half of a doubleheader with the MSU women's tennis team, facing Illinois at 10 a.m.
With Saturday's recent victory, the Spartans moved to 11-6 on the season, 6-1 in conference play. MSU continues its winning streak, moving to four straight wins. Penn State falls to 11-8 on the season, 0-6 in B1G conference action and is on a seven-match losing streak.
Shaking up the doubles duo, freshmen Vuk Radjenovic and Danial Rakhmatullayev were at No. 1 doubles, junior Ozan Baris and freshman Matthew Forbes slid into No. 2, while redshirt-sophomore Aristotelis Thanos and freshman Mitchell Sheldon rounded out the pairings for the Spartans.
The new pairing of Baris/Forbes found success at No. 2 doubles, defeating Marcus Shoeman/David Lindsay (PSU), 6-2.
Securing the doubles point for the Spartans was the freshman duo of Radjenovic/Rakhmatullayev. The pairing took on Loren Byers/Sam Bossem (PSU), defeating them 6-4.
With the doubles point in favor of the Spartans, the remaining match would not be played out.
With the momentum from the doubles point, the Spartans set out for their singles matches.
Rakhmatullayev put the first singles point on the board. The freshman took on David Lindsay (PSU), defeating him quickly, 6-3, 6-2.
Fresh off his Big Ten Freshman of the Week award, Radjenovic had a lot to prove. In doubles and singles, Radjenovic put on a show for the Spartans digging deep and securing the 6-2, 6-3 victory against Marcus Schoeman (PSU).
Loren Byers (PSU) put Penn State on the board as he defeated Baris (MSU) 7-5, 6-3.
Tying up the score for the Nittany Lions was Nolan Ranger (PSU). In a great back-and-forth match, Ranger (PSU) defeated senior Josh Portnoy (MSU) 6-4, 6-3.
Mi. Sheldon fought back after an 0-3 deficit in the first set, winning 7-5, 6-3 against Sam Bossem (PSU). The Spartan freshman clinched the Victory for MSU.
The remaining match between junior David Saye (MSU) vs Reiya Hattori (PSU) would be played out. After fighting hard in the first set, Saye couldn't find the momentum to win the set, losing 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-10.

The Green & White are back home Sunday, March 30 at 2 p.m. as they take on Ohio State. MSU's men's match is part two of a doubleheader with the Spartan women's team, who take on Illinois at 10 a.m.
