NOTES TO KNOW:
• Due to extreme weather conditions and to limit exposure to dangerous temperatures, Michigan State students will be prohibited from lining up at the Munn entrances until 15 minutes prior to the building opening for our home games versus Minnesota.
• Friday night's game is Teddy Bear Toss night and Saturday night's game is Star Wars night at Munn.
• Michigan State moved up to No. 2 in both the USA Hockey Poll and the USCHO.com poll this week, up from No. 3 via USA Hockey and No. 4 via USCHO last week. MSU has not been ranked lower than No. 4 in either poll this season.
• MSU swept then consensus No. 2-ranked Wisconsin on the road at the Kohl Center last weekend, taking out the Badgers by scores of 4-3 and 4-1. Senior forward Daniel Russell scored three goals for the Spartans in the series including two in game two.
• The Spartans are now 7-3-0 against ranked opponents this season. All ranked opponents on MSU's schedule to date have been ranked in the Top 10. Other MSU opponents, New Hampshire and Michigan Tech have made later appearances in the rankings.
• Junior goaltender Trey Augustine, senior forward Charlie Stramel and freshman forward Porter Martone have all been nominated for the 2026 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, presented annually to the top player in college hockey.
• This is MSU's first series against Minnesota this season. The Spartans will conclude the regular season in Minneapolis on March 5-6. Michigan State is 3-2-3 against the Gophers over the last two years. MSU won all three shootouts in the three ties to earn the extra point towards the B1G standings.
• Michigan State's top line forwards Daniel Russell - Charlie Stramel - Porter Martone have generated 79 points this season on 34 goals and 45 assists, and are a combined +65 on the ice with Stramel leading with a +24 to Russell's +22 and Martone's +19.
• Stramel has set a new career-best in single season points with 29 this season, topping his 27 from his junior campaign in just 21 games (set 1/15 at Wisconsin).
• Stramel is #4 nationally in face-off wins (272), #28 in assists per game (0.73), #14 in goals per game (0.59) and #14 in points per game (1.32).
• Martone ranks #8 nationally in goals per game (0.70) and is #8 in points per game (1.35), ranking second on the team in points with 27 (14-13-27).
• Russell ranks #28 nationally in assists per game (0.73) and is one of only seven active DI players with 100+ career points.
• Junior goaltender Trey Augustine is among the best in the country ranking #3 in shutouts (3), #2 in goals against average (1.75) and #2 in save percentage (.937). Augustine leads all active goaltenders in career wins (57) and has played in 15 less games than the #2 goaltender.
• Michigan State ranks #1 nationally in scoring defense (1.77), #8 in scoring offense (3.55) and #4 in scoring margin (+1.77). MSU leads the Big Ten in scoring defense and is third in scoring offense.
