What you need to know about Spartan softball

• MSU plays its first home midweek contest of the season, welcoming Toledo to Secchia Stadium.

• Toledo has started the season 7-20, but is coming off a series win over UMass, earning consecutive run-rule victories on Friday and Saturday. The Rockets are coached by MSU alumna Jessica Bracamonte, who was a four-year starter for the Spartans.

• MSU got its first home games of the 2026 season last weekend, hosting No. 9/5 Nebraska. The first and final games were tight pitchers' battles, with the Huskers ultimately sweeping the series. The Spartans drew the two highest-ranked B1G teams to start the league season, opening at No. 5 UCLA the week prior.

• The Spartans went 13-10 in pre-Big Ten play, the most in-season tournament victories in the four years of Sharonda McDonald-Kelley's tenure. The Spartans earned wins over two ranked teams (No. 14/16 Virginia Tech and No. 13/12 Auburn) and suffered a 5-4 road loss at No. 19/17 LSU.

• Green and White batters have already posted eight triples this season (fifth, B1G), matching their total from 2025.

•The Spartans have smacked 46 doubles through 29 games (ninth, Big Ten). MSU has surpassed its 2025 total (43) and has matched its 2024 total. MSU is on pace for 85 in its 54-game schedule; the program's top-five single-season totals are 94 (2004), 91 (2017), 89 (1997), 73 (1999) and 72 (2003).

• MSU has turned 15 double plays on the season, which ranks third in the Big Ten and 20th nationally (0.52/gm). It is one shy of breaking into MSU's all-time top 10 in that category. The school record is 27, set in 2015.
• MSU has drawn 101 walks (3.48 per game), which is eighth in the Big Ten. The Spartans averaged just over three walks per game last year (136 walks in 45 games) and are on pace to surpass that total.

• Zoie Bernard owns or shares the team lead in batting average (.340), slugging (.610), on-base percentage (.416), hits (34), runs scored (20), doubles (11), triples (5), and stolen bases (5-6). She ranks second in the league and third nationally in triples (5) and third in doubles (11), which is 28th among Division I players.

• Sydney Doloszycki is second on the team in batting average (.289) and leads the squad with 18 RBI. She is one of just two players in the senior class (along with classmate Britain Beshears) to play all four of her collegiate seasons at Michigan State.

• Hannah Hawley has started all 29 games - 20 at third base and nine at DP. The senior is hitting .259 and leads the team with four homers, is second in slugging (.459), and is third on the team in base hits (22), doubles (5), RBI (15), and runs (16).

• MSU's middle infield duo of juniors Hannah Greer (2B) and Payton Conroy (SS) have played all 29 games at their positions. Conroy's 69 assists rank third in the Big Ten, and Greer's 58 is seventh. Conroy had seven assists and three putouts vs. Nebraska, while Greer had 10 putouts and 10 assists.

• Jacey Schuler started two of the three games against Nebraska, going a combined 8.2 innings with three strikeouts, surrendering just three extra-base hits. Autumn Behlke contributed 5.1 innings of work, scattering nine hits (and only one for extra bases).
