MSU Women’s Tennis Travels to Happy Valley To Take On Penn State

Spartans tangle with Nittany Lions in a Friday evening road match.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis ventures to State College, Pa., for the Spartans' second Big Ten Conference match of the season, facing off against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Friday, March 6, at 5 p.m.

MSU's second Big Ten match comes after a difficult loss to the No. 2 nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, 6-1, last Saturday.
Notably, sophomore Ellie Blackford put up the only point for the Spartans, defeating OSU's No. 44-ranked Nao Nashino 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7).
The Green & White go into the weekend with a 7-4 record after a striking, 5-2, win at Bucknell on Sunday.
Scouting Penn State
Penn State has had a strong start to its season, earning a 9-1 record, dropping only one match, also to Ohio State.
The No. 38-ranked Nittany Lions also upset No. 25-ranked Yale in a 4-2 feat during the previous weekend after having to cancel their match against Princeton.
While the Nittany Lions go into their match against MSU with identical 0-1 conference records, the competition is fierce.
Series History vs. Penn State
MSU has struggled against Penn State, holding a 9-14 record since the 2001-02 season.
Previously, the Spartans toppled the then-No. 33-ranked Nittany Lions in a 4-2 upset win during the 2024-25 season in East Lansing.
The last time the Spartans beat PSU in their home territory was during the 2017-18 season in a 5-2 victory.
The Spartans and Nittany Lions both look for their first Big Ten conference win going into the weekend.
