Spartans Face Top Competition at Big Ten Invitational

Rancho Cordova, Calif. -- Michigan State completed a competitive weekend of competition at the Big Ten Invitational, lining up with some of the top crews in the nation on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif. Featuring several ranked crews among the 19 participating schools, the Spartans navigated three sessions of racing over two days in what was considered by some to be the premiere in-season regatta lineup of the 2026 racing season.

The regatta featured an all-female jury, made up of officials from throughout the midwest and west coast.

Michigan State was a bit plagued by injury and illness, as only one boat (the varsity eight) went unchanged in terms of lineups across the three sessions, with the three entries in the fours having three different lineups over the course of the regatta. MSU's varsity eight was third behind Washington and Oregon State in the first session of racing, was two seats behind Southern California in the Saturday afternoon session, and fell to three Big Ten entries in the Sunday morning final. The second eight had a pair of third -place finishes on Saturday, and the varsity four had a third and a fourth.

The Spartans are back in action on May 2 when they travel to Bloomington to race Indiana in the Dale England Cup.
