Stewart-Barnett Wins Her Third Big Ten Steeplechase Title

LINCOLN, Neb. – Kate Stewart-Barnett captured her third 3000m Big Ten steeplechase title to lead Michigan State track & field on day two of the B1G Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.
"I am really proud, honestly. The heat and the wind - everybody is running in the same conditions, but it is easy to get in your head about it," Stewart-Barnett said. "I am proud of how my teammates and I have handled this weekend. Last year, I learned you can never check out of race, so I just kept pushing today."
Stewart-Barnett has now won the steeplechase crown in 2026, 2025 and 2023. She led wire-to-wire, winning with a season-best time of 9:44.32. She is the first multi-year steeplechase winner for the Spartans since Leah O'Connor won four-straight from 2012-15. Sophia Lucki also picked up three points for MSU with a sixth-place finish, finishing in 10:16.45.
Tess Roman was the second Spartan woman to score in the championship, finishing fourth in the heptathlon with 5,347 points.
In day two of the heptathlon, Roman started the day with an eighth-place finish in the long jump (5.28m), accumulating 637 points. Â In her best event, she finished first in the javelin with a throw of 44.24m, which garnered her 749 points. Roman looked strong in the 800m, which was the final event. She finished sixth with a time of 2:23.79, which gave her 773 points.
For the second-straight season, Dylan Terryberry scored in the decathlon, finishing fifth with 7,076 points. Last season, he was seventh in the grueling event.
To start day two of the decathlon, Terryberry began with a personal best in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.23 for 822 points. In the discus, he finished sixth with a best throw of 34.50m, which earned him 556 points. Terryberry then moved to the pole vault, where he equaled his personal best. With his best vault of 4.20m, he finished sixth for 673 points. He completed the competition with 519 points in the 1500m (5:07.25).
In the 400m, the Spartans did not have anyone reach the final but had several personal bests. In the men's 400m, Noah Sage ran a season-best 47.71, while Alexander Yon's 47.47 was a personal best. In the women's 400m, Lexy Wilson crossed the line in 53.99, which was a personal best and No 6 all-time at MSU. Elizabeth Anderson recorded a time of 55.48.
In the men's discus throw, Dalton DeBeau finished seventh with a throw of 57.74m, earning two points for the Spartan men.
Sunday will be full of finals, beginning with the 4x100m relays and ending with the 4x400m relays. Stewart-Barnett will be back in action in the final of the women's 1500m. Riley will also be competing in the men's 5000m final.
