Holly Hankenson joined the Spartan Track & Field staff as an assistant coach for throws in August of 2023.Â
Hankenson most recently spent the 2022-23 indoor and outdoor seasons at Wake Forest where as an assistant coach she oversaw athletes competing in the jumps, multis, and sprint events. Prior to heading Winston Salem, North Carolina, the Indiana native served as a graduate assistant coach closer to home at Ball State for the 2021-22 indoor and outdoor seasons.
She competed as a multi event athlete at Louisville from 2015-19. She was a three-time NCAA All-American and broke the school pentathlon record three consecutive years, including a career-best showing of 4,175 points to win the ACC Championships 2017-18 pentathlon title. Hankenson also holds Louisville's school record in the heptathlon, a 5,556 point mark she set as a sophomore in 2017. In 2019 she was awarded as an ACC Post-Grad Scholarship winner.Â
Under Hankenson's direction at Wake Forest, Anna Bush finished third in the heptathlon women's high jump at the 2023 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.Â
Hankenson graduated from Bellmont High School in Decatur, Indiana in 2015, having shattered four school records while there. She studied Business Administration at both Louisville and  Ball State. Hankenson has Big Ten roots as her parents Bridget and Steve were athletes at Illinois.Â
