EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior goaltender Joe Blackburn made 20 saves to lead Michigan State to a 1-0 win over Ohio State Friday night at Munn Ice Arena.
The Spartans -- who were limited to an Adam Hall goal in the first period -- survived a third period which included two Ohio State power plays.
Michigan State improves to 3-1-0 overall (3-0-0 CCHA) and has won three straight. Ohio State has lost four straight and is 2-4-0 (1-4-0) entering Saturday night's rematch.
Hall scored at 7:47 of the first period on the power play thanks to a pretty pass from senior center Shawn Horcoff.
"It was good work by Rustyn Dolyny to get the puck deep," Hall recalled. "Brian Maloney fought through two guys to get the puck to Horc, who made a picture-perfect pass in front. It's easy to put those in."
For Hall it marks his third straight game with a goal. He has nine goals in his last eight games dating back to last season.
Blackburn earned his fourth career shutout and first of this season. His last shutout was also a 1-0 victory, vs. Notre Dame Feb. 12, 1999.
Michigan State and the Buckeyes meet against Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. in Munn Ice Arena. The game will be televised by AT&T Cable Services in Lansing (MediaOne Ch. 17, TCI Ch. 13).
