The Basics
Storyline Michigan State hopes to bounce back after Miami halted the Spartans? 10-game winning streak last night.
Last Night Miami dominated the Spartans early and took a 2-0 lead midway through the second period. Two power-play goals from John-Michael Liles helped MSU pull even, but Miami scored less than a minute into the third period to take a 3-2 lead. MSU had several chances to score, but no shots on goal the rest of the way.

Note of the Night
Superballs (bouncing back) ? Michigan State is 10-0-1 in the games following a loss the last three seasons, including wins in each of its last seven games following a loss. The last time MSU lost back-to-back games was at the end of the 1996-97 season (March 15 vs. Michigan, March 22 vs. Minnesota).
Five More Notes No Media Person Should Be Without
1. Sweep free ? The last team to beat Michigan State in both games of a weekend was Miami, Feb. 10-11, 1995, in Munn Ice Arena. The Spartans last back-to-back losses in one weekend came against two different teams, Boston College and Northeastern early in the 1996-97 season (Oct. 25 and 27).
2. Power surge ? Michigan State snapped an 0-for-19 drought on the power play last night with two PPGs in the second period from freshman defenseman John-Michael Liles. Despite the recent power outage, MSU has the CCHA?s best power play in league games (15 for 60, 25 percent).
3. Great goalie II ? Freshman goaltender Ryan Miller, who has started the second game of each weekend series this year, allowed a goal for the first time in nearly a month vs. Bowling Green last Saturday. His school-record shutout streak ended at 191 minutes, 54 seconds after becoming the first MSU goalie ever to record three consecutive shutouts. He leads the CCHA in goals-against average and save percentage in both overall games (0.91,.960) and conference games (0.80, .964).
4. Horcoff is on ? Senior center Shawn Horcoff has a career-best 11-game point-scoring streak, averaging over two points per game in that time (5-18-23). He already has more than half of his point total from all of last season (37). Ten of Horcoff?s points have come on the power play, giving him a hand in two-thirds (10 of 15) of MSU?s power-play goals.
5. About the streak ? Miami snapped Michigan State?s 10-game winning streak, which had given MSU its best CCHA start in school history. It also matched MSU?s longest winning streak since a 19-game run from Oct. 15 to Dec. 16, 1988.

Raving about rookies ? Three freshmen ? left wing Brian Maloney and defenseman Brad Fast and John-Michael Liles ? share MSU?s rookie lead in scoring with seven points. Each has a multiple-point game in the last two outings. Fast and Liles share the lead among MSU defensemen in scoring. Those three have scored five of MSU?s last six goals, the only exception being Shawn Horcoff?s empty-net goal against Bowling Green last Saturday.
