Sanborn Named AVCA Volleyball All-District

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior middle Jessica Sanborn has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association?s (AVCA) All-District Team for District 2, announced December 7. Sanborn?s selection marks the fifth consecutive year that Michigan State has placed a player on the All-District 2 team (Dana Cooke, Val Sterk, 1995, Val Sterk, 1996, Jenna Wrobel, 1997-98). She is now in consideration for All-America honors.
Sanborn led the Spartans in hitting percentage at .322, was second on the team in blocking at 1.16 per game and third in kills per game at 3.60. She was honored as the Big Ten Conference?s Player of the Week on Sept. 13 and was named to three all-tournament teams, including an MVP award. Sanborn is fourth in career hitting percentage at MSU (.285), fifth on the career block assists chart (291) and sixth on the total blocks chart (353).
In November, Sanborn was named to the GTE Academic All-District IV Second Team, one of only five Spartans ever to earn the honor and the first since 1996. On December 8, she was also one of seven Spartans to earn Big Ten academic volleyball all-conference honors.
