Impressive Second Day Lifts Men's Golf into 10th Place

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's second-day 296 on Tuesday, the fourth-best team score of the day, lifted the Spartans into a tie for 10th place in the final standings of the University of Texas-San Antonio Invitational.

The Spartans, who finished with a 321-296=617, were 17th in the 18-team tournament after Monday's first 18 holes but bounced back with a 25-stroke improvement on Tuesday. It was the most impressive improvement in the tournament, as most teams saw their scores rise on day two.

MSU finished 43 shots behind first-place Nebraska, which ran away with the tournament title behind medalist Jamie Rogers.

Senior John Ehrgott led the Spartans with a 70 on Tuesday, equaling the best individual score of the day. His 79-70=149 was good for an 18th-place individual finish.

All five Spartans shot a 76 or better on Tuesday after Ehrgott and sophomore Chad Quinn had led the team with matching 79s on Monday.
