York Takes Home Three Awards at Hockey Banquet

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior center and team captain Mike York (Waterford, Mich.) received three of the nine team awards presented at the 1999 Michigan State University Hockey Awards Banquet, held Friday night at the Holiday Inn South in Lansing, Mich.
York was named the teams Most Vaulable Player, the Outstanding Offensive Player and the Outstanding Senior, awards which add to his already bulging trophy case from this season. He has also been named a first-team All-America and All-CCHA, CCHA Player of the Year, CCHA Best Defensive Forward and Hobey Baker Award runner-up.
"Mike is such an unselfish person that I know the individual awards dont mean much to him," head coach Ron Mason said. "At the same time, he is very deserving. He will be remembered as one of the all-time greats in Spartan hockey."
Other honorees included senior left wing Bryan Adams (Fort St. James, B.C.), who earned the Amo Bessone Award presented on the basis of athletic, scholastic and community participation, and Rick Duffett, who earned the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Duffett, an All-American goaltender who played for MSU from 1967-70, is currently the Vice President for Administration and Finance at Ferris State University.

GOOFUS AWARD Chris Bogas (Sr., D, Cleveland Heights, Ohio) (team humorist) Just the second player (Rob Woodward) to win the Goofus three times
OUTSTANDING OFFENSIVE PLAYER AWARD Mike York (Sr., C, Waterford), first player to win this award three times and first under Ron Mason to lead the team in scoring for three years
OUTSTANDING SENIOR AWARD Mike York (Sr., C, Waterford) Was just the fourth Spartan to win CCHA Player of the Year honors
