Spartans Help Team USA to Gold at Summer Challenge

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State hockey players Adam Hall, Andrew Hutchinson and John-Michael Liles were part of the U.S. National Junior Team which took the gold medal this week at the USA Hockey Summer Challenge in Lake Placid, N.Y. Team USA wrapped up the week?s competition with a 2-2 tie against Finland on Saturday, finishing the double round robin tournament with the Finns and Switzerland with a record of 3-0-1.
Hall, a sophomore right wing from Kalamazoo, played in all four games for the U.S. and finished with a goal and five assists (six points). He finished tied for third among all participants in tournament scoring.
Liles, an incoming freshman defenseman from Zionsville, Ind., played in two games and posted three assists. Hutchinson, a sophomore defenseman from Rochester Hills, appeared in three games and had one assist.
In all, the three Spartans had a hand in 10 of Team USA?s 17 goals during the tournament. Michigan State and Minnesota were the only two schools with three players on the 27-man roster.
The tournament allowed USA Hockey officials to evaluate candidates for the 1999-2000 U.S. National Junior Team which will compete in the World Junior Championship this winter.
