EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State defenseman Brad Fast (Fort St. John, B.C.) today was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week. Fast had one goal and four assists in three victories for the top-ranked Spartans last week.
The sophomore blueliner opened the week by scoring his first goal of the season in MSU's 5-0 whitewash of Lake Superior State at Munn Ice Arena last Tuesday. He then earned an assist by setting up Brian Maloney's game-winning goal in the Spartans' 3-2 win over Minnesota in the team's first game of the College Hockey Showcase in Minneapolis Friday and closed the week by notching three helpers in Sunday's 6-2 victory at Wisconsin.
Fast, who leads all Spartan defensemen in points with 1-8--9, becomes the second MSU player to win Defensive Player of the Week honors this year. Goaltender Ryan Miller won the award for the weeks of Oct. 30 and Nov. 6.
