Horcoff, Weaver Named To JOFA All-America Teams

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State hockey seniors Shawn Horcoff (Castlegar, B.C.) and Mike Weaver (Bramalea, Ont.) were named to the 1999-2000 JOFA West All-America teams released last weekend in conjunction with hockey's Frozen Four.
Horcoff, a center, earned first-team All-America honors, marking the third straight season that a Spartan has been on the first team. He led the Spartans and finished second in the nation in scoring this season with 14 goals and 51 assists (65 points) in 42 games played. The team captain was named the CCHA Player of the Year as well as the CCHA Best Defensive Forward and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, given to the nation's top college player. Horcoff led the Spartans with a +23 plus/minus rating.
Weaver earned second-team All-America honors for the second straight season. A first-team All-CCHA selection and the conference's Best Defensive Defenseman each of the last two seasons, Weaver led all MSU defensemen with a +17 plus/minus rating this season. He recorded eight assists in 38 games.
Michigan State finished the season with a 27-11-4 overall record (18-8-2 and in second place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association). The Spartans won the Great Lakes Invitational and the CCHA Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive season.
Michigan State's annual Hockey Awards Banquet is set for tonight, April 10, at the Holiday Inn South in Lansing. A reception begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and the awards presentation.
