MSU Hockey Maintains Top-Five Status In Polls

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State hockey team remained in top five in both major college hockey polls released Monday (Nov. 5).
The Spartans, coming off a home sweep of Bowling Green, are rated fourth in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll with 225 points. St. Cloud State is the nation's top-ranked team with 282 points and 16 first-place votes. Minnesota, with 264 points and three first-place votes, is second followed by Denver with 244 points. Boston University rounds out the top five. Other CCHA schools in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine poll are Nebraska-Omaha (sixth), Northern Michigan (ninth), Michigan (13th), Miami (14th) and Ohio State, Alaska Fairbanks and Western Michigan (receiving votes).
St. Cloud State is also the top-ranked team in the U.S. College Hockey.com poll with 596 points and 36 first-place votes. Minnesota is second with 552 points and four first-place mentions. Denver sneaks into the third spot with 505 points while MSU, with 495 points, drops to fourth this week. Boston University completes the top five. Other CCHA teams in the USCHO poll are Nebraska-Omaha (sixth), Northern Michigan (ninth), Michigan (12th), Miami (15th) and Ohio State, Alaska Fairbanks and Western Michigan (receiving votes).
The Spartans dropped to fifth in this week's Sporting News Power Poll, also released Monday (Nov. 5). St. Cloud State, Minnesota, Denver and Nebraska-Omaha comprise the top four. Other CCHA schools in the Sporting News rankings are Northern Michigan (eighth), Michigan (10th) and Ohio State and Miami (honorable mention).
