Ross Named To WCHA'S All-Time Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Michigan State forward Tom Ross was one of 10 players named to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Top 50 Players in 50 Years team today. The team is part of the WCHA's 50th anniversary celebration this season.
Ross, was a member of American Hockey Coaches' Association All-Time West Team, named in 1997, is the all-time leading scorer in college hockey history with 324 points. The Dearborn, Mich., native was a two-time All-American and league co-MVP in 1975. He was also named to the Denver Post all-WCHA First Team in both 1975 and 1976 and was an all-WCHA Second Team selection in 1974. MSU's team MVP as both a junior and senior, Ross was the WCHA's leading point-getter in league games in both 1974-75 (32-48--80) and 1975-76 (41-42--83) and scored a point in a conference-record 78 consecutive games from Dec. 19, 1973 - Dec. 6, 1975.
Others named to the team in addition to Ross are Colorado College's Brian Swanson, Lou Nanne of Minnesota, North Dakota's Reg Morelli, George Konik of Denver, Wisconsin's Mark Johnson, Brett Hull of Minnesota-Duluth, St. Cloud State's Bret Hedican, Tony Esposito of Michigan Tech and Michigan's Red Berenson.
A new group of 10 will be released each month concluding at the WCHA's Final Five in St. Paul, Minn., March 14-16. Other Spartans still under consideration for the honor are defenseman Norm Barnes (1972-74), defenseman Bob Boyd (1970-73), forward Steve Colp (1972-76), goaltender Gaye Cooley (1965-67), forward Daryl Rice (1972-76), goaltender Joe Selinger (1956-58), forward John Sturges (1972-76), forward Doug Volmar (1964-67) and goaltender Jim Watt (1969-72). The Spartans played in the WCHA from 1959-60 to 1980-81.
