EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team will compete in the sixth-annual Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate this weekend (March 24-25) at the Tanglewood Resort in Lake Texoma, Texas. The Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate will be MSU's second tournament of the spring.
The Spartans posted a seventh-place finish in the Big Red Classic on March 11, where two golfers finished in the top 10. Sophomore John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) and senior co-captain Brent Goik (Bay City, Mich.) are coming off top-10 finishes at the Big Red Classic. Koskinen shot a 218 (72-72-74), which tied for fifth-place while Goik recorded a 219 (72-72-75), good for a share of ninth.
The Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate hosted by Northern Illinois University, features a field of 17 teams. A number of Big Ten teams will be competing, including last year's tournament champion, Minnesota. The Golden Gophers are currently ranked 13th and are looking to win for a fourth consecutive time at Tanglewood.
The Tanglewood Resort features a challenging 7,000-yard, par-72 championship layout. The course was designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer in 1973. It features large bunkers, lush Bermuda fairways and bent grass greens.
The tournament begins Saturday (March 24), at 7:00 a.m., with a shotgun start. The first two rounds (36 holes) will take place Saturday with the final round (18 holes), being played on Sunday (March 25).
